How CBD and CBG products can help relieve symptoms of anxiety.
You’ve probably heard plenty about CBD, one of the most popular cannabinoids revered for its relaxing effects—but have you met its mum, CBG? This lesser known cannabinoid is still being studied, yet there’s already hype around its commonalities with CBD, as similar studies have focused on CBG’s potential for having anti-anxiety properties.
We love educating our community on this wondrous plant, so let’s explore CBD and CBG further: their similarities and differences, how they may work with the body to ease anxiety, and the benefits of using them in tandem.
The differences between CBD and CBG
CBD (cannabidiol) is a non-intoxicating compound extracted from the hemp plant. It binds to the cannabinoid receptors throughout your body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is responsible for regulating functions like mood, sleep, appetite and pain. Within a medical context, CBD is being prescribed for a wide range of needs, including the treatment of some forms of childhood epilepsy, anxiety, muscular discomfort, skin irritations, autoimmune diseases and neurological conditions.
CBG (cannabigerol) is considered the mother of all cannabinoids. It’s the “base” molecule from which CBD and THC are formed. Isn’t science cool? Much like CBD, it’s a non-intoxicating compound that research suggests has the potential to help manage pain, inflammation, and anxiety. CBG is also showing potential as an anti-bacterial.
How CBD and CBG can minimize anxiety
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America, anxiety disorders affect 40 million adults in the US. Symptoms include stomach pain, trouble focusing, heart palpitations, and muscle tension.
CBD has the ability to bind onto receptors in the endocannabinoid system, which can restore balance across our main functions. This is also commonly referred to as “homeostasis”. Now, with this balance comes a healthy ECS, which may ultimately lessen anxiety.
Using both CBD and CBG to ease anxiety
The combined non-intoxicating effects of CBD and CBG increase the potential for benefits. The only roadblock is that CBG extracts such as oil are hard to come by—but there are some pioneering farmers currently working to produce high CBG yields, so be on the lookout!
However, this doesn’t mean you can’t consume CBG whatsoever. Full spectrum CBD products contain many therapeutic cannabinoids, including CBG! That’s how we roll at oHHo; our CBDots and CBD oils contain low levels of CBG, meaning you can enjoy every benefit the plant has to offer.
