Outcast Acres

-

Saratoga Springs, New York

oHHo products:
NY THC chocolate, gummies, pre rolls + Recovery Balm

oHHo has partnered with Chris and Krystal, the farmers behind Outcast Acres, for a number of years as we love their biodynamic approach to cannabis cultivation. In addition to companion planting they ensure their land is healthy and happy by cover cropping, crop rotation, releasing beneficial insects such as ladybugs and lacewings and allowing the ducks, geese and chickens to free range the crop getting rid of unwanted guests and weeds.

The outdoor season began in the second week of June where we ‘companion planted’ around an acre of land. Companion planting is an approach where you plant other botanicals such as marigolds, basil, sunflowers, beans, wildflowers and chamomile alongside the cannabis. These plants can influence the terpene profile of the plants as well as assisting with pest control, disease prevention, nutrient enhancement, space optimization, biodiversity and ecological balance.

Prior to growing cannabis Chris was a farrier and blacksmith as well as a serving US military veteran. Krystal and Chris have raised 5 daughters and are wild animal welfare specialists - you will always find a menagerie of orphaned wild animals being rehabilitated on the farm alongside the dogs, horses and one goat.

Outcast Acres has also expanded into greenhouse cultivation where there is greater control over the cultivation environment for the pre roll market. Maintaining a commitment to sustainable cultivation, the Outcast Acres greenhouses utilize mycelium rich soil and grow oyster mushrooms around the cannabis to increase CO2 levels, making for very happy plants.

“I LOVE walking through rows of cannabis and seeing them mature over the Summer. I love the smell, and I love all the field prep that goes into the season even prior to planting.  Just spending time quietly outside is certainly incredibly satisfying”

East Fork Cultivars are an incredible team located in the small town of Takilma, nestled between the pristine waters of the East Fork of Southwest Oregon’s Illinois River and California’s Siskiyou Wilderness, in the heart of one of the world’s best environments for sungrown cannabis.

They cultivate around 10 different USDA Organic Certified strains of cannabis across 33 acres and are also Sun+Earth Certified establishing them as a cannabis brand that are holistically responsible and grow in a regenerative way for the well-being of all people, farmers, and the planet.

East Fork mesh together ancient stewardship practices with modern sustainable agriculture. A large portion of the land has been kept in its native state of oak savanna, with natural wetlands. They also plant a lot of pollinator-friendly flowers in order to maintain healthy pollinator populations, with tons of bees and a diverse array of butterflies among our favorites.

“The native soil of Oregon’s Illinois River Valley, coupled with our unique farming practices and meticulous drying and curing methods, gives our cultivars their distinct qualities”
